Where to Find Your WiFi Name and Password

The network name (SSID) and password are exactly what you'd type when connecting a new device.

🏷️ Router sticker

Most routers have a sticker on the bottom or back with the default network name and password (often labeled SSID and WPA key or Wireless Key). If you never changed them, that's what goes in the form.

💻 Windows

Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi → your network → View Wi-Fi security key. On older versions: Network and Sharing Center → Wireless Properties → Security → Show characters.

🍎 Mac / iPhone

Mac: Passwords app (or Keychain Access) → find your network → show password. iPhone (iOS 16+): Settings → Wi-Fi → tap the ⓘ next to your network → Password.

🤖 Android

Settings → Network & internet → Internet → your network → Share. Android shows the password below its own QR code (which you can also scan directly into the form).

Which security type?

Almost every network today is WPA/WPA2/WPA3 — pick WPA unless you know otherwise. WEP only appears on very old routers. Open means no password at all (airports, cafes).

Guest network tip

If your router offers a guest network, make the QR code for that instead of your main one. Visitors get internet, your own devices stay on a separate network, and you can change the guest password without reprinting anything else.

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Gather WiFi Information

You'll need your network name (SSID), password, and security type.

How to find your WiFi info:

  • • Check your router label for default credentials
  • • Look in your router's admin panel (usually 192.168.1.1)
  • • Check saved passwords on your devices
  • • Contact your internet service provider
2

Create WiFi String

Use the format: WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:Password;H:false;;

Or use our configuration tool above to generate it automatically.

3

Generate QR Code

Go to our homepage, select "WiFi" as the content type, and paste your WiFi string.

4

Print and Display

Print the QR code and place it where guests can easily scan it.

Best Practices

Security Tips

  • Use a separate guest network for visitors
  • Regularly change your WiFi password
  • Use WPA2 or WPA3 security when possible
  • Monitor connected devices regularly

Placement & Design

  • Place QR codes at eye level for easy scanning
  • Include instructions like "Scan to connect to WiFi"
  • Use high-quality printing for clear scanning
  • Provide backup manual connection instructions

Troubleshooting

QR Code Not Working

  • • Verify the WiFi string format is correct
  • • Check that network name and password are accurate
  • • Ensure the QR code is large enough and has good contrast
  • • Test with different devices and QR scanner apps

Connection Fails After Scanning

  • • Double-check the password for typos
  • • Verify the security type matches your router settings
  • • Ensure the network is broadcasting (not hidden) unless specified
  • • Check if the network has device limits or MAC filtering

Device Won't Scan QR Code

  • • Update the device's camera app or QR scanner
  • • Try scanning from different angles and distances
  • • Ensure adequate lighting when scanning
  • • Some older devices may not support WiFi QR codes
